I've asked this question in Yahoo! Answers too but I wanted to hear from guys here.

What would be a good job that has mutual respect and understanding for your co-workers and the fulfillment of doing something that helps others? I've looked at some jobs like Peace Corps and the Red Cross. Those 2 are actually what I'm looking for but wanted to learn of others if I can. Thanks.

Civil Service?

Pretty sure you can find those "requirements" in almost any job.

Not if you mean "government work". Government employees can be a mean bunch. I worked in city government for five years, and I've worked around other state and federal agencies, and those people are so bitter and bored they LOVE to fight.

Bloody: the job you would look for has to have some basic qualifiers:

1. It has to be a "fun job". People who work there need to *want* to work there to keep spirits high. (And infighting low) Places like minimum wage retail work and large corporations don't tend to foster this.

2. There needs to be room for growth. People get bitter when they feel dead-ended in a job. Alternately, if everyone is more or less equal this might work, although that's pretty uncommon.

3. People of different ages need to be cross-lateral. Which means older people in lower positions, and younger people in higher positions, and vice-versa. Otherwise, you may end up with an "us vs. them" problem.

As for fulfillment? That's sort of a mentality you bring. In Kuwait, I definitely felt like I was helping the troops when I was in the USO, but several of my coworkers could give a shit less about the soldiers - they were only in it for the money.

iv been doing my civilian service for ~7months now (still got ~6months left) and iv been working at a local school as an school assistant(dunno whats the real english word for it..) and iv had lots of fun in there and its respected work(at least in here) and they really need more ppl in placses like this.

So id say you could try to work in school (if u have bit "better" nerves than ppl normaly do that you dont get too angry to the kids if they aredoing their "little" tricks) and if you dont have anything againts kids.

i'd say my old high school earns that a lot more than his. we've had 2 teachers get fired in 2 years for inapporpriate student-teacher relations. and one was a special-ed teacher...
