Buying RAM Subject description: i need some help. |
|
Alright so im planning on buying some more RAM for my comp b/c as i just recently found out it only has 502mb of RAM (not 512, 502). I was planning on buying 512 - 1024mb more.
1st off i was wondering if i need more info then just the type of RAM my computer uses (will this type [DDR2] be compatible with my comp?).
2nd i was wondering if anyone knew of a good site to buy it at. At office max 512mb of DDR2 RAM is 40 dollars (on sale from 80) I found 1024mb of DDR2 RAM for 40 dollars as well but im not sure this site is legit/trustworthy.
any help would be appreciated.

http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=147&name=Desktop-Memory
the type of RAM depends on your mobo. theres different pins and speeds.
try this http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx to find out which you have. or just open up your cpu and look whats already in there

well it has a sticker on the front of the computer that i personally think looks pretty stylish so i kept it there. it has all the info i need (i believe).
it says "512 mb DDR2" which is my RAM
and it runs at 533MH
i thought those are the only things i needed to know , but i wanted to make sure so i didnt blow my money on something i cant use.

A good amount of ram to have is 2gb, buying it now will keep you ahead a year or 2, and by then 2gb will be the norm. www.newegg.com is a good place to buy ram. Ebay would also work, though I don't buy anything online, as I would rather physically touch it and know what I'm getting, before I buy it.

2 gigs is a bit overkill for casual stuff. 1 gig should be enough
and in about a "year or 2", the price should go way down

Well, if you're doing casuall stuff 2gb is an overkill, but if you're going to be running new games, the standards are very high on a pc. now a days 1gb is normal, 2 is good.

If you never intend to use that pc to run modern, or high req games, 1GB will be fine.
If the RAM you have at the moment IS 502MB, throw it away its either broken or your motherboard is broken, or the OS doesnt know either what it is or how much there is of it.
Just get something like this.
