i built a lvl 30 smiter this week, with a mostly lvl 30 hdin build. heres a list of what the gear is..

helm - peasant crown
armor - 34 vipermagi
shield - spirit akaran targe 67/67/32/67 res
weapon - spirit broadsword
gloves - vgrips
boots - tearhaunch
rings - 2x manald heal
ammy - angelic (still havent gotten eye of etlich)
belt - snakecord (want deaths sash)

it worked out pretty good but stupidly enough i used concentration aura, any tips on what other gear to use and what skills to put in what? my skill points were like this..

smite - 20
holy shield - 7
conc - 7
and then prerequisites.

seems this would work better..

smite - 20
holy shield - 7
fanat - 1
6 extra points for.. defiance?

help me out please.

Your main problem is in the weapon choice. Spirit is not a good choice for smite. I would recommend for you to get a shael'd military pick (6sockets), and continue using concentrate aura for the +damage it offers over fanaticism.

I believe a barbed shield has the highest damage for a smiter at that level, so it would be ideal to find one with +2pcombat and deflecting. I'd suggest making a rhyme barbed shield as a temp.

Bloodfist would be a good glove choice, and I would use sojs over manald heals for rings. Your ammy should be +2pcombat or +1paladin with other mods. As for your belt I would go with string of ears.

I'm sure someone will fill in anything I've missed... I'm no authority on smiters, but that is the stuff that stood out the most to me.

6 shaels? all i really need is a couple ias jewels and he would probly be set. as for the shield dmg shouldnt really be the most important thing for smiter, with a pally shield its already a little faster, and thats why im rebuilding to use fanat for the ias. but what would shaels do? all it has is fhr isnt it?

Shael in a weapon - 20%ias

IAS Jewel - level 31.

A shael weapon would let you use concentrate, which would make your damage higher. 129%ias is the highest breakpoint, so with a 6shael pick and bloodfist you hit that +1 (130%).

The shield you use doesn't affect your smite speed(that's what you were saying I think).

Use the spirit sword and shield to prebuff Holyshield on switch. For a shield uped swordback is prolly a good starter for the Open wounds it gives but like Dream said make a Rhyme barbed shield for the CBF(cannot be frozen)

I think you should try to remake and the life on your smiter looks a little low but im guessing you dont have full 15 lifers

yeah currently no charms on him except a couple with 12 fhr and a 3 res. im gonna shael my 6 soc crystal sword and use that.

Do you get max block with 25 dex?

I would not use a crystal sword, it's slower than a military pick, you need 180%ias with it for the same breakpoint as 129%ias on a mili pick.

as for shield either upped swordbackhold or barbed shield with +1pala/20/30 socked with erm p dimmys if i remeber right or +stat/all res jewel

for armor i dont rember what it was, prolly spirit shroud

boots: upped gtoes(or non upped depends on your str)

belt SoE

gloves cant remeber

my smiter was a conc build, used 6shael military pick and bfists for the last bp. pcrown, spirit shroud, up'd swordback, string of ears, goblin toes instead of tearhaunches for sure. sojs for rings and a 2 pcomb, 80 life ammy is ideal.

note that this build is lacking fiercly in resists, but i just built it for killing a zealer (dont ask haha). so vs elemental chars i swapped in a vmagi for the spirit shroud and rhyme barbed instead of swordback
