Well, I want to make a level 9 barb, and my primary want is for it to be a throwing barb. What I plan on using:

Wep:
Eth replenish quantity + other good mods Throwing Spear, Short Spear, or Pilum.

Armor:
4 socket Gothic with 4x 9 maxers or
3 socket Breast plate with 3x 9 maxers.

Helm:
Primal helm with +3 throwing mastery/bash/shout (preferably, but not expected, I at least want a +3 shout helm to buff with. 3 socketed with 3x 9 maxers.)

Shield:
BS of deflecting with 2x 9 maxers.

Jewelry:
Nagel's or rare rings with high enough AR and Any decent rare ammy I can find.

Gloves/Belt:
Death's.

Boots:
Decent rare ones.

I'm definitely open to exactly what kind of barb I want to make, as I'm yet to find the spear I want. My questions:
1. Are throw barbs successful at this level?
2. Have you found or do you think other barbs more successful?

Give me suggestions on changes or anything you can see. Thanks in advance.

even with ideal gear i dont think its a viable build bc it is a runner and if going toe-to-toe it will be interupted easily, kinda depends on the speed a thorw can achieve.

check the throw break points on the speed calc in the sticky (or search google) site im sure ull want as fast as possible, so might need 40ias. maybe 30 ias enough. dont know myself though

well i could see this being a good build if you could out run your opponents and had pretty good ias but you cant relle get speed charms that low or can you get speed gc's low lvl?

iirc, 7frw gc is level 14 req.

also, being that a throw barb is a runner, the ancient armor idea would kinda slow you down a bit, being that it is heavy.

So a guy could go level 14 for fr/w GC's and have an effective thrower? Could also use 10 life SC's too.

I have a level 9 throwing barb that uses Leap skill. With gorefeet and a 3 leap helm I have a total of +9 leap. Overall the character isn't very good even using great gear.. its not bad but you (or your opponent) will get bored of running because it takes a while to kill someone. Due to slow run speed (at most +20% frw) its hard to create the distance, even with leap. Whereas a higher level thrower can run and create lots of distance so they can fire multiple projectiles at once... at level 9 its usually its just throw a single spear, run more, and throw one more spear. Leap allows me to jump over rocks and rivers to create distance.. but it still gets boring when you can't kill someone fast.

Also, eth repair for a throw-only character is generally a bad idea unless you have like 5 stacks of them .. otherwise it limits the fun you can have in public dueling.

I'd recommend level 12 (double throw, blinkbats) or level 14 (FRW grand charms) so that you have more killing ability instead of just being a runner / leaper. If you stay level 9, you should use a 3os breast plate, hsaru belt/boots, 3os 3 throw mastery helm, 2os rare shield, and rare 10ias throwing spears with knockback.
