You can't sneak up on your enemies in the night, duuuh.
But as stated I think this helm rocks for def builds. A few q's.
When does durability actually get reduced from armour/helms, and when does it get removed from a shield? (probably a link somewhere but seams appropiate for this topic)
Also I take it that base eth def on item dosn't matter when you imbue it? so if you get like a 90 def eth grim shield and imbued it the def stats would be rerolled?

The durability gets reduced I believe when it is hit, shield would be when you block an attack and other equip is from when you the char get hit.
And i think that eth items all have highest def +1.
New Question-
What type of jewels should I look for for my shield and my armor? Armor I was thinking of getting a 18 max/-15% req or a max/min/-15 rare jewel, as for shield (holy grim of deflecting) I was thinking of either 2 max damage jewels or one max damage and a shael to hit the 4 fbr, but I want to test it first, I need to find a zealer to test against.

It's random within the acceptable values. The +1 thingy is when the item spawns with enhanced defense.
