Anybody here an Amateur Radio Operator? I've been thinking about getting my license and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience on the matter.
So far they sound pretty neat. Licensed operators can help with emergency communications, cross-country and international calls, and even listening in to trucks on the highways for police traps.

You need a license?
I thought you could just buy one of those radios...

It's regulated by the FCC, you'll need a license to transmit on certain frequencies. You could do it without a license, but if anyone really felt like it they could just triangulate your position find you. But its not like the FCC does much these days. Plus without a license you don't have a callsign.

Like Bubba Joe or Rusty Bolts?
One of my friends used to use have one and he'd mess around a bit.

You're issued one as soon as u get a Technical license. It has modifers based on location, like KJ4SZV or something lol.
