i wanted to share this with those who might not have heard

http://www.boycott-riaa.com/article/14981

u can read the orignal post by "EA_spouse" here
http://www.livejournal.com/users/ea_spouse/

this is good read for those interested in game companies for a career

as u may not know it is common practice that big companies (the only kind that really exit now a days) exploit the eager and creative.

Holy Shit sorry for my language but i had no idea this kinda of stuff was happening in big time places like EA and other video game companies but i do LOVE video games even if there is Heavy Very heavy work involved long nights short pay if its something i love to do then i wouldnt really care too much Yet if it did cost my health and time with loved ones then i'd reconsider heavily

I had an idea that things were bad but not nearly as bad as that Sad. I think its an important issue to consider for anyone who looks into going into that profession despite the passion they may have for games. I just cant believe its that bad! Shocked I dont doubt that it is but I had no idea...

Unfortunatley I doubt change in these companies and their work ethics will come about any time soon since as mentioned the game industry is in full bloom and that as soon as anyone leaves the job there are tons of eager people waiting for a spot. however if everyone got together to do something about it (which i highly doubt will ever happen) change could be brought about much faster.

Although change will eventually come about, I unfortunatly dont think change will come about in the near future...

thats partially the problem.
if your willing to be exploited,.. well, then you will be,, its still exploitation.
imo,if your not being compensated for your time, your not an employee, your a tool.

i realize u might change your mind with a wife... but let me help that :p
what about when u get a girlfriend... or even TRY to have a girlfriend?

try to imagine what 12 hours a day at school.. 7 days a week would be like?
and read some of the posts youll see the salary is NOT compensation.

just because california law has a grey area exemption for game programmers.. doesnt mean the loop-hole is legal.
any other positions thats NOO dice...
other companies (such as the one i work at) they do compensate u (WELL) for over time.. some of the game programmers (my buds even) right next to me pull all nighters, sleep 2 hours in their car and walk in for that early meeting at 8... but they get compensated for their efforts. its what a valuable employee deserves for keeping the company up at crutch time.

just listen to this, it makes me hurt inside.

"They increased the mandatory hours to 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., six days a week," ea_spouse said. "Then it went up to seven days. They* were just so pompous about it."

*we all know who "they" are right?

PS: you mean "Square Enix" right? they merged april 2003
Wink

it's not an all nighter if you catch 2 hours in your car. Wink

anyway, yeah, it's terrible what they're doing. it's true that programmers these days are a dime a dozen but companies should have morals that they should stick to. reminds me of Office Space where they replace Mike and Sameer with week old college graduates.

lol since when do large money making companies have morals? sickening isnt it...the exploitation of human beings (or animals for that matter) for the gains of pompous money loving paper pushing assholes who sit on their asses while others are taken advantage of so they can rake in the money...it sickens me! (sorry little rant there)

unfortunatley since as was mentioned before so many people want those jobs, its no problem to employers if current employees quit, because there is someone else to take their place asap. So doubt the problem will be rectified any time soon. the best people can hope for atm is to make as many people aware of the situation to help the process of change along.

and jerkazoid your really lucky to be working for a good company, hold on to that job Very Happy

its small. and they dont make anything ud buy in a store. but maybe when one of the games i worked on comes out ill let you know.

currently the only thing out right now that i worked on is the Verbnow.com stuff. i did alot (80%) of the animation u unlock as your "virt" gets more active

interesting BX, i consider "all nighters" to be when u use the whole night to work.

i always thought of an all nighter when you didn't sleep at all. in other words, if you pulled an all nighter on monday night, the next time you slept was tuesday night.

all-night?er
Pronunciation: 'ol-'nI-t&r
Function: noun
: something that lasts all night; specifically : an all-night study session

from webster dictionary

edit: i guess your both right because the difinition doesnt state when you go to bed. wheather it be in the morning like an all-nighter monday night and go to bed tuesday morning, or going to bed the tuesday evening.

...if i make no sense its ok im exhausted.
