I have no idea what to do with vista as I've fortunately been able to resist it.
With xp, try clicking on the Network Setup wizard (in Control Panel) and see if that gets you on the right track.
The laptop SHOULD be able to find the router via wireless when you tell it to "search for networks".
Not the best advice I'm afraid...but hopefully it'll get you on the right track.
GOOD LUCK!

Step 1: Plug cable from Modem into the WAN port of the router
Step 2: Plus cable from computer into one of the ports on the router
Step 3: Plug your gfs computer into one of the ports on the router.
Then you'll be on the same network.
I googled this:
Hi Diablo uses IPX for its protcol. When you try to play mutli-player over LAN and it gives you an error, it is more than likely because you do not have IPX installed. To install it, simply right click on MY NEtworking Places and than click on the Icon that appears in that window, once there push the install botton, It will popup a second menu, on that menu click IPX, it might a line of other stuff in there mine said NWlink IPX/NPX/NetBIOS etc... Itstall that and it should work fine over the LAN, if you are wanting to host your own game and not go though battle.net (which I think is down now) you have to set up port forwarding in your (the hosts) router. You'll have to look at you manuel for that. the port # is 6112
