PostPosted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 9:57 pm    Post subject:  HLD Bow Barb?

I'm sure his has been done before, but i just picked up a nice Widowmaker and thought I might try a guided barb Smile

I was wondering if anyone knew the ias breakpoints for a bow on a barb?

Will it be the Normal ias breakpoints?:
0% 9% 11% 18% 26% 30% 48% 75% 86% 125% 180%

Or is it the same as the bow bps for a zon:
Ward Bow (0) 0% 9% 20% 37% 63% 105% 200%

Depending on the IAS, the following gear comes to mind:

90+life/160/60 LIGHT armor
2barb/30rw/2socket circ with 2x 40ed/15ias
life/stat rings
fhr/ow/str/life belt
gloves??
gores?

Seeing as how there is no bow mastery and i'm only using guided, i'm going to have a lot of skill points to play with:

20bo
1bc
20increase speed
20natural res
20leap (helpful for lettin my guided catch 'em Very Happy )

I'll allocate the rest into increased stamina probably, since i'll be doing a lot of running.

Depending on how much IAS i need, i'll stick a 15max/-req or 40ed/-req jewel in my widow.

Well, just a suggestion, you could try using double throw with two eth laceraters. But that would make u more of a double throw barb instead of bow barb.

Also, ammywise I would go for the one that gives chance to cast amp (forgot the name).

I am fairly certain the IAS is for normal attack on the barb with a ward bow, that should let you know your BPs.

I thought so, thanks for re-assuring Smile

125%IAS will get me 7.5frame guided, I think that will do.

In that case:

2barb/30rw/2soc circ 30ias
90+life light armor, 60ias
ed/ias'd or max/ias'd widow 15ias

In this case, i need 20more ias. I'm thinking that a cats eye would be best here?

1x raven frost
1x stat/life ring
24fhr/10ow/str/life belt
still not sure what gloves. Rends appeal, but they require a shitbunch of strength.

Your IAS breakpoints will be bow breakpoints for a barb.

0 % - 14 fpa
9 % - 13 fpa
19 % - 12 fpa
32 % - 11 fpa
54 % - 10 fpa
86 % - 9 fpa
152 % - 8 fpa

Ehhh's bps are correct.

My bow sorc hits the 9fpa guided using a merc which rarely dies since I tele but it probably wouldnt work on your build.
- a couple frames faster makes a huge difference

You NEED some source of knockback so: nef the widow, 20ias/kb/stat gloves OR another choice is to use Gskull helm which could work out the best.

think you would be sacrificing too much with 152%ias. With the 86%, is gives you so many more options.

armor: fort?, enigma gives you the ability to tele out of sticky situations so it might not be bad
I wouldn't use a 160/60 though.

ammy: cats eye: frw, ias, dex or hilords: 1skill, ias, DS
gloves: 20%ias kb/stats, crafted gloves, rends, bloodfists (if you need the 10ias)
boots: gores
helm: guillams/coa/gskull/good rare circ
Rings: rfrost and or 10fcr(using nig)/stat/life rings
belt: Nosferatu's coil, dungos, crafted belt.

There are many options here, if you decide to cham+40/15 the gskull for example, then you could using different rings and maybe cb gloves or something.
You might want to consider using some of the %dr gear when needed.
BO with wc weps, then have a Harmony bow on switch is an idea.

I have a feeling this build would have a really hard time competing with any decent bowzon + many other chars though but it's worth a try. I tried playing around with a bowpally and a bowsin on single player but they both did weak damage and nothing compared to my sorc.

Here's my sorcs stats just to give you an idea:
~10k-32k guided (15k-42k on the LCS)
1.3k life
2.3k mana - 80%es with max telekinesis
75% all resis
9fpa ias
37%fcr - 10fps

I was thinking, instead of using a KB item, couldn't i launch a volley of arrows and leap a few times? Wouldn't that work decently?

Having Kb lets you do damage AND knockback. Leap doesn't do that

I'd use enigma for the armor. It has teleport and tons of run/walk speed.

Remember that widowmaker has very low base weapon damage. Poison and Open Wounds are very helpful for this build.

Pretty much you are going to want to look something like this:

20ias/kb/stat gloves
highlords
2 barb 20 fcr 2 soc circ 2x15 ias 15 res
shael'd widow
arachnids
gores
2x ravens

switch: 2x dwebs

charms: anni, torch, all the psn charms you can get. 175/20's or 290's or 3xx or 451's, whatever...just stack on massive poison Wink

zap zap with teh guided, then wsg the dwebs to give an extra -100 psn res to enemies while psn'd Very Happy

very effective, very annoying, and 100% romps on pubs.

I suggest you make a regular bvc-type barb (maybe mace mastery works with wands?) and max leap, whirlwind, inc speed, nat res, bo or somethin along them lines. that way you have uber-leap radius, lots of psn dmg, and if someone is up your ass you just whirlwind away with dwebs out Smile

try it out they are massive fun Very Happy

why arach? other than the 1skill, do i really need that fcr? It bumped me to the 37fcr breakpoint sure, but you think its really needed? I was thinking an fhr/ow/life belt would work nicely here.

imo yes, you get fcr, mana, slow, and extra boost to life/mana/def/res/speed/etc... from the skill

imo you are going to want 40 fcr 90% of the time...the rest of the time is when you have zero chance of winning

yeah just make sure to avoid grief, or using the venom charges on arach; if you cast venom on yourself it will utterly destroy your poison damage
