Subject description: or "Lame-adin"

The more popular version of its zealing counterpart, the lvl 30 bm smiter uses slow, holy freeze, crushing blow, and physical dmg to kill its opponents very effectively. People will call you bm, a newb, etc...but that's half the fun right there. The problem with the zealot is that it uses valuable skills and items in place of what makes it good, leaving you with an adequate dueler. Smiters are much more effective because they don't make use of many of the same items. Holy freeze and slow really only help a smiter.

For example, instead of using maxers, you can use shaels for ias, rubies for life, or skulls for rep. That's part of what makes this stronger than the zealot. It's more defensive while severely impairing the opponent at the same time. Without the need for ar, more skill items like sojs can be used as well.

Stats
Str - enough for gear
Dex - enough for max block with holy shield
Vit - the rest
Nrg - none

Going titan (pumping str instead of vit) is viable on this build as well.

Breakpoints
http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english
The german speed calculator will help if your build varies from this one.
I don't really remember where I got my ias info that I put in my 9-18 smiter guide, but there are so many possible smite ias breakpoints with varying weapons at this lvl that it wouldn't really be worth posting. Generally, however, a bm smiter will want to hit 7 frames with a [-10] weapon such as general's, the staple of % slow, at 60ias.

FHR isn't very important since opponents will be slowed, but the 30 from bloodfists will give you enough to hit the 6 frame bp.

Gear
Your gear will vary by preference and whether you choose to make this at 29 or 30.
Helm - Peasant Crown or Magic or Rare skill/life/res/mana circ (not really necessary with a bm build)
Weapon - General's Tan Do Li Ga (shaeled)
Armor - Twitch, Vipermagi or Spirit Shroud (w/ pruby or pskull)
Shield - Upped Swordback or Rhyme Barbed
Ammy - 2pcomb and 80/60life magic, or a nice rare
Rings - sojs
Gloves - Death's or Bloodfists
Belt - Death's or String of Ears (preferably 15-15)
Boots - Goblin Toes
Charms - 15 lifers, res all, frw scs
Switch - Insight rune staff for charge finish if necessary

Whatever combination you use, it is always best to have the highest ias possible (7 frames @ 60ias in this case). Some frw is also nice to have even while slowing your enemies by a total of 90%, 50 from slow and 40 from holy freeze; these being the pvp restrictions.

Skills (41 w/ hell rush)
Before putting any points into skills that you don't want to max out, take into account what +skills gear you have.
20 Smite
1 Holy Bolt
1 Charge
1 Hammer
7 Holy Shield
1 Might
1 Holy Fire
1 Holy Freeze (main aura, possibly 2 skills if you only have the +2 all while the others are +pcomb only)
Rest into defiance for holy shield synergy.

Closing
More general info about smiters can be found in the beginning of my other guide.

I have one, sorta different gear than what you've listed though because I went for more damage. This actually is a fun character to mess around with and it demolishes most Fanaticism Smiters, melee duelers (excluding ww barbs and fury druids) and zons (every kind except for plague zons). Good job on the guide Razz.

Edit out pdiamond.

edit: Found my old thread about this.

also since damage smiters will have the upper hand on you (im just going by what other people are saying), if i was building this id use a spirit akaran rondache for the better mods, but still use your skill set, if you already know youre not going to beat the competition in damage.

Hmm idk why I said that, I don't think they would have the upper hand because they'd be slowed so much already...perhaps my opinion changed since then, or because i was "going by what other people are saying" I didn't have a firsthand opinion at all. Can you think of a reason to use a spirit?

From experience, A well prepared damage smiter will destroy most BM slow smiters. All they need to do is Flash Smite with same flail and then change back to thier original speed/damage weapon to finish them off. When I say flash I mean just weapon switch and hit them once, the slow lasts for long enough to kill most BM smiters unless they decide to charge to town.

Im thinking you could dump your left over skills in another skill than defiance, Perhaps prayer for bonus regen when your chargeing with insight or charge for better charge damage etc.

As I originally stated slow from items lasts for quite some time, and thus your main weapon could be a different weapon all together.

Have lifetap wands for extra bm goodness.

Not sure why he chose Defiance, but I would personally say go with Holy Shock IF anyone was going to use a +FoH War Scepter on switch.

i dont think a bm v/t would be good at all, thats why i stuck with charge on switch. prayer is a good idea, yeah.
