the cd drive itself feels physically loose... i travel alot maybe it dropped a lil hard and it came loose... it doesnt open on its own, unless i apply pressure then it seems to almost like "plug-in" so i can insert a disc, but the "my computer" shows no signs of a disc drive, and nothing will load.

I really doubt i have any clue as to what i'm talking about compared to many people here, but the first thing i would try before installing a new one is of course pop it open and check the connections... maybe even use a different sata plug if there is one available, and use a different power connector as well, try and see if the problem is within the connections or the drive itself. If you have a disc stuck in there, most cd drives that i've come across have a pin-sized hole you can stick the end of a paper clip in to pop the tray out... If you aren't comfortable with opening it r dealing with it, try to find someone you know that can do it, cause you'll only get ripped off taking it to get it worked on if there's only a minor problem.
i've prolly been stating the obvious, i just wasn't sure... thought i'd try to help
edit: once you're inside you can tighten it up from either side... should be two screws on either side of it connecting it to the case, and if it is physically loose, my best guess would definitely be the connections.
