PostPosted: Thu Jun 21, 2007 11:56 am    Post subject:  Level 18 Hammerdin Hybrid - Blessed Hammer/Smite Paladin
Subject description: This is a character that I have made.

Introduction:
Many people may already have level 18 Blessed Hammer/Charge Hybrids, but this is a bit different. This character uses Smite instead of Charge because it is more affordable and it's still viable.

Equipment:
Helmet: Tarnhelm or 1 to Combat Skills + 10% FCR Circlet socketed with a Perfect Skull(s)
Armor: Twitchthroe socketed with a Perfect Skull (or the runeword Stealth)
Weapon: 3 to Blessed Hammer/3 to Concentration Scepter (ideal scepter would be a 2 socketed 10% fcr/1 to Combat Skills/3 to Blessed Hammer/3 to Concentration)
Shield: Steelclash
Belt: Death's Guard
Gloves: Death's Hand
Amulet: 1 to Combat Skills + 10% FCR Amulet
Rings: x2 10% FCR + Mana Rings (more than 30~40 mana would be best)
Boots: Cow King's Hooves
Weapon #2: Crushflange
Shield #2: 4 socketed 5~45 resists Heraldic or Aerin Shield with 4 Perfect Skulls or Swordback Hold socketed with a Perfect Skull

Skills:
*Remember that this guide only requires a Normal Rush.
Holy Bolt - 1 Point
Blessed Hammer - 1 Point
Smite - 1 Point
Might - 1 Point
Blessed Aim - 7 Point
Concentration - 1 Point
Holy Fire - 1 Point
Holy Freeze - 1 Point
Prayer - 1 Point
Cleansing - 1 Point
Defiance - 1 Point
Vigor - 1 Point
Resist Fire - 1 Point
Resist Cold - 1 Point
Resist Lightning - 1 Point

Stats:
You start out as:
Strength: 25
Dexterity: 20
Vitality: 25
Energy: 15

Stats with Normal Rush:
Strength: 47 (You get all this from your gears and charms)
Dexterity: 50 (You get all this from your gears as well)
Vitality: 115 (Put all your points here because you'll need it)
Energy: 15

Battle Tactics:
vs Melee: Spam hammers, switch to second weapon and smite when low on mana.
vs Casters: Dodge projectiles by running and try casting hammers near them, have a resist aura on smite switch depending on their element. Try to smite when low on mana.

Charms:
For your charms, use two 5 strength large charms, and for the rest, use any charms you would like (I prefer 10~15 life small charms).

Comments plz. Mr. Green

The Smite weapons strike me as odd. Steel Flail would be better?
Otherwise, interesting.

What damage did you hit with Smite/Hammer?

Crushflange is nice for the crushing blow, but I'd use Swordback for the open wounds + smite damage.

You have enough points left over that you have plenty of room for a hybrid build. People usually pair it with charge for a "Liberator" build. Smite is a nice concept as well.

The rune word "Steel" would be a horrible choice compared to Crushflange because it doesn't have crushing blow. My damage for Smite is about 10~18, but most of the damage comes from crushing blow. My damage for Blessed Hammer is about 180~200 (I don't remember exact damage).

I was thinking using Charge instead of Smite, but I was thinking of the positive and negative sides of using Charge. For me, there were too many negative sides to using Charge.

Positives or "Pros":

-Gears give enough mana to use Charge multiple times.
-Charge is good for "runners".
-Great against duelers with a two-handed weapon or no maxed block.
-Etc.

Negatives or "Cons":

-Needs distant to use Charge.
-Against duelers with maxed block, you wont have many chances to hit.
-Needs "decent" attack ratings to hit.
-Might be killed when running away from opponent to Charge.
-Etc.

Yet again, I can't see any reason to smite someone when you could just hammer them. I'd go for charge hybrid.

I wonder if Zeal would work if Charge does. I think there are many different ways to make a level 18 Hammerdin because of the extra skill points.

Puddles, the crucial point that you keep missing is that neither Charge nor Hammers needs any IAS to be effective. Trying to make a zealot or even a smiter hybrid means that you are going to have to sacrifice effectiveness on both your skills. You're either going to have a hammerdin with extremely slow zeal (which won't let you melee any character) or a zealot with extremely slow hammers (which you won't want to use).

The most sensible choice is charge. Goky made one early in the last ladder season, and it was a very powerful, versatile build. As long as you load up on life/mana GC's, you should be able to charge and cast hammers without having to use mana pots.

I was wondering if a Hammerdin/Zealer would work because I saw one awhile ago (Not sure what he was, but it looked like a fully geared Zealer using only Blessed Hammer). He sucked though xP.

If you can find a way to make it work, more power to you. I haven't figured out a way that you could balance power and speed with both skills and still be competitive. But hey, that's a good reason to build one and prove me wrong Razz

Perhaps a hammerdin/Holyfire ranger hybrid could work with this build... Either a throwing wep or raven claw to anoy others to enter your hammer field. Would probably work best with a rush.
