Would this be like the warning meter under your name, and after it gets so high you're banned? I would find it easier this way, I'll just use one of the most active sections for example: if Roy is locking threads because he doesn't have the time nor patients to delete posts and warn the person, perhaps he should have someone else helping him moderate the off topic section, I mean it is one of the most active sections.

Though I am not a mod and I don't know how hard or easy it is.

But I do like the idea of the meter, if that is what this thread is about.

The issue isn't so much time and patience. When person A starts flaming person B in Alt Gaming, person A writes me a PM asking me to stop the flaming.

I delete the post, and person B starts flipping out because I'm deleting his posts. So he starts flaming even more, and when I let it slide, person A starts complaining about the flaming again.

There's no way that everyone's going to be happy in this situation. Having a warning system would just lead to people complaining about getting warned. And if people don't get warned, then the people whom they were flaming are going to complain.

You can't please everyone, and the only solution is to just lock the topic until cooler heads prevail.

I dont think you need a warning system, its rather simple to solve, especially in this situation. If a person is flaming and you delete the posts, thats a slap on the wrist, they continue to flame, walking on thin ice, continue again, ban. Thats 3 warnings, and thats all you need.

I agree Imp, but I wouldn't be super harsh with it, flames every once in a while don't hurt anything, and spam every once in a while isn't that bad. Just for the people who keep it up, we all know who those people are...

Its usually obvious if it was a rare occurance or it happens frequently.

Okay, but Imp, would you agree with me that the way threads simply got insta locked is irritating? I want to establish an effective and proper warning system so people who get out of hand really suffer consequences instead of the thread itself.

The warning system was actually just a suggestion (hence the forum Wink ) so spam/flames would be easier to deal with and warnings actually have some substance behind them.

Spamming is a whole lot different from flaming, but...

Lets say I make 20 posts in about 2 threads that contain 1 word. You and many others would think of me as a spammer. A mod (should idk if they do already) pm me and tell me its spam and thats my first warning. A warning system is already installed, it doesnt have to show.

And I do hate the insta locking.
