Ok, so I took the PS2 apart, sprayed compressed air all throughout the innards of it, which were quite dusty, and put it back together.

Apparently, the night before, the fan was making loud noises when used. I didn't know that, and when I went to try guitar hero tonight, the fan made that same loud whirring noise when in use. I accidentally put the a/v cables in the wrong slots, so I turned it off, switched the cables to the right spots, and tried it again, and the fan would not work at all.

Oddly enough, the PS2 worked fine for about 15-20 minutes. The PS2 got a little warm in some spots, but overall it seemed fine, despite the lack of a fan. Then we turned it off, and tried it on a different tv. It worked for about 10-15 minutes, before shutting off with the same aforementioned problem which was the inspiration for the creation of this thread.

So it's obviously a faulty fan unit, and I don't know exactly where to go from here. Are the fans sold separately? Can a makeshift fan be used? Like...position a small fan facing the fan inside the PS2 and have it continuously blowing turning use?

The first one just looks like the back plate of the ps2, while the second one is obvious. I don't have my ps2 on me right now so I can't look at it to verify.

IMO just toss the ps2, and buy a 360
