PostPosted: Sat May 20, 2006 5:46 am    Post subject:  Looking for my next GBA game

I'm gonna pick up another GBA game soon and I'm looking for some recommendations.

Here are the ones I currently own:
Backyard Football
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
Golden Sun
Phantasy Star Collection
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Breath of Fire
Dungeons and Dragons: Eye of the Beholder
Advance Wars
Namco Museum
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Metroid Fusion
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
The Final Fantasy Legend (GB)
Metroid II: The Return of Samus (GB)
Face Ball (GB)
Tetris (GB)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan (GB)
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

I'm not a fan of sports games (except for the Backyard series of games), so I'd prefer to not have any recommendations in the sports Genre. Additionally, if the game uses "cards" of any type in the gameplay, I'm NOT interested.

A nice action or shooter would be a good change of pace, and I'm always down with a great RPG.

Thanks!

Kingdom Hearts: CoM uses cards, but most likely not in the sense that your talking about

i'd recommend kingdom hearts first, and then the golden sun series. if your going to do golden sun, make sure u buy the first one first, because the second one's storyline makes no sense if u dont play the first one.

Fire Emblem is a really good game, imo. I own the first Fire Emblem and it was pretty damn fun. I also believe theres a sequel, but I'm not sure when/if it was released.

I have two kids. But why does that matter? I was a kid when TMNT came out. Why couldn't I have a bit of nostalgia?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though and assume you were asking me my age in order to better recommend titles I may be interested in.

At any rate, here's the real story behind TMNT and a few of the other basic GB games: My family (my parents, sister, and I) were at church one day and after it was over, we returned to the car to drive home. Apparently we had left the back windows open. Sitting inbetween the two back seats was a grey game boy case with a game boy and a couple of games. (This was back when the first game boy actually came out.) The best thing I can figure is that someone's kid tried to "sneak" a game boy into church and the parents got pissed, snatched it from the kid and tossed it into our car because the windows just happened to be open. Shocked

At any rate, we got a free gameboy.

When I got older, i purchased a GBA and was surprised to see that all of my "black and white" game boy games were actually made in color!! It's just that the game boy itself was black-n-white.

Below are more great rpg's for you to choose from:

Tales of Phantasia (old school Japanese release finally available in US)
Breath of fire 2 (better than 1 imo)
Final Fantasy I & II Advance
FF IV advance
Riviera: The Promised Land
Shining Force (amazing strat/rpg revamped from early 90's genesis title)
Shining Soul
Shining Soul II

Do a search on any of these & decide. I groove em all. Good luck on your purchase heh.

Thanks for the tips. Is the FF 1 and 2 available now as FF: Dawn of Souls or is that something different? Keeping track of which is which is getting kinda daunting with all the FF's.

I played Shining Force, and subsequently purchased it on a Sega's Greatest Hit's CD for the PC. I also have a few Shining Force's for my Saturn. I LOVE that series. I'll have to check into those for sure. Thanks for the tips!

Sure thing. FF 1+2 & FF dawn of souls is the same. Smile yeah, it can get confusing lol.

As for shining force: yeah one of my fav. series as well. I still play the original 2 on my nomad & the 3rd on saturn heh old school gaming goodness... ^_^ In the gba remake, they changed char. animations & also added some other cool stuff. Zylo is still badass heh.

How old are you? You must be younger than Shade and myself if you are ignorant of the greatness of TMNT. And why should age matter? I know plenty of people in their twenties that love TMNT, because we grew up loving them, and you just can't top something like that when it comes to a cool kids show that appeals to adults and kids alike. Heck, even my dad would get up early saturday morning and watch the new TMNT animated series that came out a couple years ago.
