I just realized I bought it in 2002, played it twice then lost it, but I found it again! I played it twice today and I find it extremely fun the only problem is I really suck! I beat one guy just cause I could tell he was even worse than me, he tried to rush me, only thing was he rushed so slow i already had like 5x what he tried to rush with... but then the next guy I fought beat me up pretty badly, and I don't have anyyyyyy idea what all the "melee" "bgh" "haunted house" etc stuff is... the only thing I know how to do is mine minerals and gas and build structures... and I can't even do that very well! Anyways does anyone have broodwar or original and wanna play some games with me to try and teach me?

A great tip for getting good at pretty much any game is to LEARN THE HOTKEYS!!!

I used to play Age of Empires 2 [a lot] and when i learnt how to play with only using the mouse to do things like place buildings and move troops i found that my army and economy built up MUCH faster. All that dragging the mouse around to select the a villager and then drag it to the build option and then drag it to the build house button takes up SO much time while your keyboard hand does nothing. When you can build a house [or starcraft equivalent] with only 2 keyboard commands and 1 mouse click youll find yourself raiseing your army much quicker.

Also looking into a Starcraft tactics forum would be a very big help.

For a beginner, hotkeys are the least of his problems. What use are hotkeys when he doesnt know how to counter units, manage his minerals and gas, and expand? Hotkeys can come later, after you've got the basics of stacraft down.

sorry i forgot about this post! i didn't even know you could use hotkeys on starcraft lol! here have been my strategies so far (assuming the guy doesnt rush), you can all tell me if they are super newb or not!
protoss: lots and lots of photon cannons right at the start, and then a bunch of those valkyrie planes or whatever those are and some carriers and archons
terran: billions of goliaths and some seige tanks
zerg: swear at computer and throw my twinkie at the wall

mass DTs are always fun. blocking your entrace with them makes you invulnerable til the opponent gets a spy. doing DT drops into your enemies base is even better.

massing carriers was always my strategy. or BCs, if terran.

Rushing is a neccessity. 50% of games are won right in the first five minutes.

Okay, for toss...it's best to get zealots first imo. For cannons, not only do you have to tech the forge, but cannons alone cost 150minerals. Assuming the opponent wont rush, which 80% of the time he will, static def is good in the beginning. I prefer zealots with a shield battery, and some cannons.

Terrans, mecha is the way to go. Which is vultures, goliaths, tanks, wraiths, valks, bc's. Unless your opponent is using mass lockdown or broodling or something i dont remember mecha is usually the way to go.
Vultures are a real necessity imo. Cheap(75 minerals), fast, decent dmg, and when u tech mines, u have 3x 100 or so dmg mines which really not good's land if u place them smart. Not only that, they are extremely useful dectectors and statis scounts. They are burrowed, and they can see cloaked units. Which means that stealthly ghost will die.

Zerg: They dominate in open areas with thier mass numbers. Early on, get some zerglings for a fast rush. If your opponent is slow, it's not good right there. Get a few sunkens for static def and your pretty much set. Mid game, i like using lurkers and hydras. Lurkers got the ground handled, and hydras have air and ground. With zerg, you NEED overlords. Not only to they provide food, but transport and decectors when teched. Not only that, once u have enough Overlords, you can always build more and it wont hurt you. They ARE 200 life meat shields too. Late game, u can always try Tech'ed Ultras, Defiliers, and some scourge. Tech'ed Ultras are 400 Life, 5 armor'ed meat shields dealing some nice dmg. Defilers have plague and swarm. Scourge pretty much dominate air if used correctly.

All i can think of at the moment :-/
