how many sockets will this add ?
i have an arien shield i found in NM cows that i want to socket
i found it on a lvl 88 zon not sure if that effects the recipe

its random. itll add anywhere from 1-maximum sockets allowed in the item.

paladin shields allowed for 4 sockets, so you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting 4, and a 3 in 4 chance of not getting 4. just use the larzuk socekt quest and youll get 4.

and the level of the character you found it with, doesnt make any difference.

no u dont have the math quite right bc your assuming the game will only pick between 1-4.. the game actually pick evenly between 1-6 before consideirng the Max socket the item could have

so its always like this
1/6 for 1 socket
1/6 for 2 socket
1/6 for 3 socket
1/6 for 4 socket
1/6 for 5 socket
1/6 for 6 socket

but since the shield can only get 4 sockets max.. If the game hits 5 or 6 it just makes 4.

so u have 3/6 chances for 4 sockets (50%)
and the other half will be not 4 sockets.

remeber that there are two things that affect the MAX number allowed,,
1) is the type of shield (ie: buckler, heraldric, or cantor trophy)
2) the level of the shield (ie: where/who it dropped from)

the Character doing the cubeing will not matter
