People are so... so...

FUCKING STUPID! Shocked Mad

At least in other mmorpgs you can blow them off or, like in D2, do most everything yourself. But this game is sorta built to assume you're in a party (or in the company of mercs) and, for the most part, people I've met on there are useless bags of idiotic, immature, unskilled, clueless retarded human refuse.

Look, I'll admit I'm a tad antisocial. After years dealing with people in the public sector (and now, the entertainment industry) I've come to learn that we could lose about 40% of our population and the only detriment to society would be fewer people in prison jumpsuits cleaning our highways, and no staff employed at any DMV.

But this game... is pure, unadulterated hell. I think God is punishing me for making fun of handicapped people, or masturbating, or eating hamburgers on Friday. Its like He reached down with His almighty hand and said "Behold! I will make a game built around party play, and then populate it with My "special" children - they who push doors that have "pull" signs, they who don't merge in closed lanes until the last second they can, thereby causing horrible traffic, they who always try to open mayo jars by twisting to the right. And Lo! I shall make it just good enough to hook Dao Jones into playing, and thereby forever after subject upon him My little simpleminded angels, and thus will he experience eternal suffering on Earth, and learn the wrath of He whose name Dao often appends the word "Damn" to.

I've been avoiding partying with other players, because I just knew it would be bad... but I've had to do it on three occasions (not including little five-second jaunts in pre-searing, which is pretty easy all told), and here were all three experiences:

1) Me (N/Mo), a W/Mo, and a R/Mo team up. The W/Mo pretty much runs ahead and charges into any group he sees. He doesn't realize that our Ranger's computer is slow, so by the time she loads into a new area he's off the screen. Never waits for me to summon minions - think's I'm a "noob" for wanting summons. Gets the ENTIRE party killed by cleverly running us into an ambush full of Charr and Storm Riders, thereby negating all my spells (via Backfire), all our Monk abilities; and of course, since I had no summons it was the three of us against about 10 enemies. And in that game no one, and I mean NO ONE, ever healed me. Once.

2) Teamed with a E/Mes who swore she'd "done this quest a million times". Spent ten minutes wandering in the wilderness, then once we were out in the middle of nowhere, says "Did this wrong. Bye", and leaves me out there alone.

3) Another W/Mo teams with me this morning to do some Monk quests out of the Sanitarium (specifically the "escort Farmer Hamlit" quest). We get to the Farmer, and the W/Mo stops, right as enemies start swarming us. He had said this quest was "easy", so we wouldn't need mercs. Which meant, of course, that the entire pack of six Charr start running right for me (and right past him, oddly enough). Without summons I get pasted in about 30 seconds, and they turn on him. Right then, he starts fighting back (he hadn't moved as I got killed). As I sit there dead he types that he was "pming his cuz", and for me to hold on. Well, he gets wasted, and leaves the party, and me dead waiting for rez. (Ironically, I went back and did that quest with level 3 mercs, and beat it wasy.)

Funny thing is, it isn't the "noobs" I don't like. It's the "experienced" players I can't stand. I know that early in post-searing you can do a lot with just mercs (and these mercs are MUCH smarter than players), but later on I hear that you pretty much need other players. I don't know what I'm going to do when that happens... because unless they give me a command wherein I can press a key and fry another player's motherboard, I don't think I want to deal with any more Guild Wars players...

I haven't ran into that many people like the ones you've described above. I mean, there are the occasional idiots (like the one that was trying to kill a group of Jungle Guardians when the Bonus for the Mission clearly states not to) but on the whole, I've found that most who I party with know how to play at least decently well.
I think you've just had a string of bad luck and haven't found the right people now. I just made a Monk (thinking of not getting a second profession) that I'm going to have fun with him at around 8pm est tonight if anybody wants to join me (or wants to wait while I catch up to whatever they're up to). His name is Zrah Prau, by the way.

partying at lower level is more difficult than partying at higher level. by the time a person is level 11-20, they are actually commited to playing their character through and wanting to get stuff done. most of the time, youll still find the occassional idiot who doesnt know what hes doing, the slow learner.

but level 1-6 id say are the people new to the game (granted it could be someone with multiple characters making a new one, like david says he is), but since the game just came out, theres probasbly a 50% chance they just bought it and have no idea what they are doing.

we;ve all been there, and some of us still are. just cope. if the party you;re with doesnt know what they;re doing, leave and get a better one.

The majority of people I play with I judge on how they act before partying, skill as a player comes second. Sure i'm in it to win but I think it's better to lose and play with non-jerk offs than win with a bunch of morons.

And most of the people i've run into are pretty cool -- just today we started a discussion on society and religion which trailed off into whether or not society created religion or religion created society.

I agree with B[x], you're just on a bad luck spree.

I do this, too. I pay attention to how they type, what they say... I usually try an off-hand joke, too, to see if they get it. If I see this guy in channel:

IHAVBIGTITS: ne1 wat 2 do duks dauter i m w/mo8
IHAVBIGTITS starts to dance
IHAVBIGTITS: lol

...then I just steer clear.

I guess I'm just frustrated. My problem is that I expect too much from people. This game can play like a tactical co-op game if your get a good group together. Two Warriors, a Monk and an Elementalist could combine and play an awesome set if everyone understood their role: the Elementalist calls, the Warriors form a defensive perimeter, and the Monk heals and protects while the Elementalist rains down death. It would be so sweet... but what actually happens is that the Warriors go charging down two entirely different groups (pulling upwards of eight attackers, four of which run right past the Warriors and at the casters), the Elementalist dies and the Monk sits and heals himself.

Even today, I ran into a slightly better group that I played with for a spell... and I was practically in tears of joy because they STOPPED after a battle to let me recharge and summon. Did the Warrior charge down mobs? Yes. Did the Ranger ever remember to call a target? No. Did I get killed twice by getting overrun while trying frantically to keep the Warrior alive? Yes. But it was still the best group I've had yet, and that's just pathetic. It's like when I used to play LaserTag/Paintball, and my teams would lose because they couldn't understand something as pathetically uncomplicated as the pincers maneuver. (Okay guys... you three circle around left and cut right on the signal. We'll go right and cross left to flush them out. Okay? Ready? Guys? That isn't "circling left". Guys! Don't charge STRAIGHT AT THEM! TAKE COVER YOU FRIGGIN' IDIOTS! *sigh* <shoots self>) Rolling Eyes

Bah. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I attract stupid people. Very Happy

That is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. I know you are frustrated but I couldn't help laughing. A lot of these players are D2 players and CS players and think they can run right into the pack and prevail. They have no finess. GW actually takes a little bit of common sense to play. Strategy plays a role. I did most of the quest up to Shiverpeaks totally alone (henchies only). Then I go to do the Kryta Gates quest and the stupid Henchies won't stay out of the poison water. They die_I get swarmed and killed. So I decide. Time to party up. We put together a good solid party with a couple good monks, a Warrior/Mo, A mesmer/Ele and me a Ranger/ Ele. As soon as we start the quest I say "Stay out of the Water" I say this like ten times...One person draw the baddies to the group. What do they do? They all rush out into the water and engage the baddies! They all die except me. I stayed on the edge and used bow and AoE to kill most of the monsters. Then they say. You got REZ? I did but I said "NO". Stupid Henchies! Eventually I found a decent group with some brains and we made short work of that quest. I have since led 3 more groups though it. Hang in there you will find good people to team up with. When you find them, add them to your F List and watch for them. It is a lot of fun to play with a buch of guys who will work together as a team.

lmao, thats old but still funny.
Dao - maybe you should try gettting a hold of people on these forums that you can party with etc. I have friends on another forum that do that, theyve made a guild and most also use teamspeak. Some are far ahead, couple lvl 20s. There was some friction in the intial guild though, then there were 2, now theyre trying to form one again, Im sure if you join up theyd help you, and the majority are 18+ yrs old.

Holy crap, that was hilarious (and almost certainly fake). I'm gonna start calling these people Leeroy's, now. "God dammit Leeroy" is going to be my catchphrase on GW, to be certain.

Heh. I try to entertain, even when I'm frustrated.

Actually, I finally found two people I can work with. I hooked up with the Ranger and Warrior from my last post, and we had a long conversation about tactics, so we're good now. We're all around the same level (11-12), so I'm fairly content. Even helped design their guild cape (and it looks darn cool, if I may say so myself...). Now we just need a good 4th. (Paired with an Elementalist/Leeroy for Althea's Ashes whose main method of attack seemed to involve running right into a huge pack of enemies to do some point blank fire spell that got him killed before successfully going off about 40% of the time. His name was "My Senses Fail", to which our Warrior, Moe Faux, dryly replied: "I know which sense failed first: 'common'".)

I've seen you on three times, whispered you all three times, never heard back from you once. Razz

Actually, once I've played my Necro a bit more (and gotten a better hold on playing GW in general), I'd be interested in forming a dedicated group with 4 or so other people on here if anyone was interested. (Not a guild, just a group that meets and plays together.) B[x] mentioned the pure Monk he is working on, and I have to admit I'm mightily curious about a straight smiter/healer Monk myself. (the smiting prayers look *so* cool, but sadly I have little use for them on my N/Mo)

Actually, after reading up a bit more I think I'm going to be an Elementalist as a secondary just to take advanatage of one or two of their defensive spells. If it turns out that I like the pure monk better, I'll just simply not use the Elementalist skills, no loss.

Hey Dao,

We have played Pre-Searing together momentarily. I now am working on a Pure Elemental but just holding onto Monk for secondary just in case. She will most likely be lvl 10-12 by 7:00 tonight. Maybe we could hook up. I took an in depth look at the skills available. I am going pure FIRE! Should be pretty damn powerful. Let me know about the 4 group....of course when you get to the temple you can have 8 in your party.

I am lazy and type like this..."what r u going 2 do wit that?". I will try to improve my grammar when I am gaming with you Wink

However, I am a man and I love that dance that the female elementalist does in that short skirt....so cute.

Errrr.....Um...
Back on topic:
You got my name but anyone else that wants to PWN guild wars and have a kick ass team I am game. I am always on between 6-10 at least.
Gloria Deathsong is my highest 14 at the moment. Add her and you will see my other chars when I come on as well.
I love the game and I will probably neglect D2 quite often.

IMPORTANT!!!
LLD101 Fans: Can we come up with a guild of our own...I know Dao mentioned that we had talked about it but I think it would be nice to have a bunch of good over 18 gentlemen that are in to true gaming get in on this guild. What do you think? I think Dao should head it up Wink We could begin normal gaming and then get in on the PvP circuit and dominate!

1) Dao's not leading any guilds for a good long while, I think. At least not until I have at least one ascended character, and a strong grasp of the game mechanics. Plus, I liked the cape I helped design so much that I asked to join the Ranger's guild just so I could wear it. Very Happy

(He wanted a green cape - I would have gone red or white, accepting the risk of looking like Templar knights from the crusades. The guild is just the three of us; certainly nothing due to be a "powerhouse" in the future.)

2) I doubt I'll be PvPing soon, either. Remember: I've been playing Diablo 2 since 2000, but I didn't start pvp'ing until about December 2004.

3) If I do ever make a guild, it's probably going to be a very small group of people, and just for screwing around. Many years ago on D2 (pre-expansion), after a particularly annoying night spent in a chat room I fired off a rant on a forum (I was very briefly in a clan, and I still posted on a forum they used) wherein I listed my "rules of chat room etiquette", which was 3 parts rude sarcasm, 1 part simple human civility. Dozens of people responded that they liked it, and within a few days people began putting "Daoist" in their account description areas (to indicate they "followed the chat philosophy of Dao". It was funny, but kind of creepy, too. The clan adopted the rules into their guild laws (despite my no longer being a member), and it was just awkward overall. Sorta cultist. So what I would want to avoid is having some sort of organization of which I am the "leader", and others are "followers". I'd rather just have a guild comprised of people like me that just screw around, have fun talking and joking, and don't feel the pressure to be awesome at this game. The kind of people I'd be willing to go out and have a beer with. (And in all my years on D2 I think I've known exactly two people online I'd consider that kind of person, and one is a friend of mine from the non-computer world that I've known for over a decade.)

Point is, there are plenty of other guilds out there, and you definitely all should make one if you're happy with sharing a guild with other people from LLD101. Personally, I've very leery about whom I will associate my name with, mostly because I don't like getting tarred with someone else's brush (which is why I left that clan I was briefly in). There are a lot of great people here on LLD101, but I for one am not sure I'd want to be in a guild with all, or even most of them. No offense, but I just play games differently than a lot of other people, and I'm just as happy to suck and have fun, then to be leet and overly competitive. I have nothing to prove, and I'm not really willing to get good enough to rock a good pvp game (why do you think I made a bone necro lld? Easiest class to be good at.)
