Guys are more likely to play female characters. O.o |
|
I found a very interesting something:
http://www.gamegirladvance.com/archives/2005/03/16/girls_who_are_boys_who_like_boys_to_be_girls.html
The author of the article doesn't have any actual statistics but I find it strange that girls would prefer to play female characters. In RPG fantasy games I love choosing different characters to test out the versatility of each one. However, I also play Sims 2 ( ) and I like making a character that looks like me but that's a different kind of game!
Any input? Do any of you have preferences of gender in games (not just in D2). If you prefer the female characters, is it because of more speed vs. strength as one person that commented on the article said? Or because you like looking at the character? Or do you have a preference towards male characters?
Or is this article absolute BS! hehe

My favorite characters are sorceresses...
lol.
I have always picked the female characters in games, because I think they are more associated with magic and the kind of fantasy that I enjoy. The men are usually portrayed as strong, big, guys, but not to mention boring. The men characters in games are always just the ones who walk around and break things. There is nothing more to it. That is why I like the sorceress, because she has so many different options.

that's pretty much why my Elementalist/Ranger on Guild Wars is female.
oh, and also, i noticed a lot of male characters on the Guild Wars servers and there has to be a balance. i mean, c'mon, you think so few women can crank out that many babies in such a short amount of time? it's just not possible.

most of the time growing up i chose characters i associated with myself....ofcourse u had no options to be female in zelda, or mario...double dragon.. contra.. mega man.. (u get the idea)
now with my interest in RPG's i tend to play tough chicks
i think its because i like seeing women kick butt.

lets see how my stats go.. my first chara on D2 was a sorc cause she was ranged and has non combat skills which made easy hitting.
MY second was a Amazon..... basicly ranged...
my 2nd was like another rematch of my sorc lol....
then my vlld..... first was an assassin then a zon then another assassin..ok that was i trying to state again? i agree with "If im gonna spend hours looking at the backside of a character, id rather look at something good."
But Diablo 1 speaks differently, I went the Sorceror then Paladin and amazon last.

Haha. When I first started playing gunbound, I chose male just because I thought it was a profile thing. But, it turns out it had to do with the avatar/clothes you get on the char. After a couple months, I transferred all my items and made a girl account because the clothes are cooler for them (same stats, just different look), and she's cuter.
As far as D2 goes though, I don't really like sorcs or amazons. Sins are okay. Pallies are my fav though.

i dont really care i just like the fact they kill other people and they get cut but i suppose being killed by a chick would be worse if they were a guy character or something

Just curious but are most of them female because you feel uncomfortable playing male characters as the article implies girls do or is it because of what the female characters are associated with (magic, elemental) as others have posted here?
I just have a hard time understanding why girls would feel uncomfortable playing guy characters as this article states.

lol the fact that someone would think enough about this sort of stuff to write that article is what's funny to me. I just choose whatever character I think looks the most fun... my first char was a necro because he looked the coolest when they were all standing around the fire and he had like the blue flames all over him making him look all sweet. It was pretty easy to choose an awesome looking spellcaster who can set himself aflame with blue flames , vs a big oaf who goes ARRRRRGH, a guy with a ponytail who points at you, some girl who can kick high, a guy with a sword, and a girl with a long pointy stick! I wanted to choose either sorc or nec and I guess the flame just looked cooler to me than the lightning. they looked the most exciting to me though

Female characters just look better. There's nothing worse than playing something that just looks ugly.

Well there might not be as much females that play male characters because there is a significantly larger number of males that do play video games. So... I doubt the number for women playing women characters are that much more.
