if the LLD section at JSP keeps going as a rage zone, then LLD101 might come back at least in part.
many there still come here to find what they need much of the time... myself included

After all these years I think one of the main reasons, aside from d2 becoming an old game, was our decision to separate lld101 from jsp. Because of our rules to keep jsp currency off our website, I think it created a gap between current and future lld101 members.
I haven't played d2 in ages, but back then, jsp currency was one of the more popular currencies, and making the decision to separate the two might have lead to a (quicker) decline in popularity, at least in the trade forums.
Despite this, I think the only thing jsp has going for them is their gold. I haven't visited their website for awhile now, but back then, nothing held a candle to our community. I'd like to think we had a great database going with tons of useful information I doubt you'd find anywhere else. I mean who else but our members would routinely go out of their way to mathcraft for us? Because we had a smaller community, we sort of had a comradery that you would be hard pressed to find in communities with a larger scale.
But hey, that's just my opinion, man.

It's not that we seperated from jsp; it's that we created site rules that strictly prohibited trade using their forum gold. I think we had some of the best mathcraft concerning gaming on the web!
Like you said, aside from the fact Diablo 2 is dead, eople might actually still use this website if we never banned forum gold. I think it was a horrible decision, despite my disposition and dislike of d2jsp.
I prefer smaller communities too, Outlaw; but we have to remember that smaller communities don't have the stability of a much large one. With that said, when Diablo 3 comes out, I don't think we will have the same issues (forum gold) that we did with Diablo 2. I envy the day when I get excited about LLD again.

Hello folks. I'm also an old timer who used to love this site back in the day (I didn't post too much, but the info here was invaluable to me having as much fun as I ended up having in D2).
Good to see people still visit here
Also, not sure who to ask about this, but is there any chance that the website would just disappear from the net? Are any of the relevant people paying the bills to keep this up? I would hate to lose all the info stored here :/

See Virtuous, the problem was, which was the lesser of two evils? I don't think we wanted to have the "jsp mentality" that constituted a great portion of their userbase, and neither did we enjoy the fact that another forum's currency was being used. Perhaps it was also a contributing factor that we had none at all, at least when it would've mattered. You see, if we did allow their gold here, it would only be a matter of time before the users would just flock to the source of it anyways.
All in all, it really had no place here, regardless if we made it the rules or not, eventually people would begin to question why they are using lld101 as a middleman for their trades. I suppose if we did allow it, it might have delayed the eventual slowdown to the point where it is now, but the keyword is delayed. I still think, regardless of our interventions this place would inevitably end it the way it is now, at least without any expansion or renewed light. Really, our website is for a small niche of an already small playerbase for an aged game. How open can we make our boundaries?

People could have privately traded with gold,
LLD trade section had enough focus to split the realms for easier trading, but it isnt enough, LLD101 never reached the numbers D2jsp could hit. when it comes to trades, large numbers = speed = liquidity and that is everything for a market. How many of us need a quick vipermagi, or soj? where else can we get that fast?
i guess the countless hours of flaming randoms is also a big draw, most people joined Lld101 with purpose.
