[Updated by Dao on 2/13/08]

Since we haven't had a rules update for O/T in over three years, I've decided that it's time to revisit what's okay and what is not okay here. I'm going to make it REALLY simple, so no one gets confused.

1. Flaming is not okay. End of story. "What is flaming," you ask? The answer is really quite simple: it's whatever the mod staff say it is. I generally don't mind (and even encourage) people to screw with each other, but there's a wide gulf between "having a little fun at someone's expense" and "calling someone an asshole".

I know people complain "well, now I don't want to post, because I'm afraid I'll get balled. Good. If you post something that you think will get you a ball, that uncomfortable feeling you have is your common sense trying to tell you to not post whatever you're about to say.

2. DO NOT POST IN A THREAD JUST TO SAY THAT YOU THINK A THREAD/POSTER IS STUPID/LAME. That will instantly earn you a double ball, and a ban from O/T for a week. If you don't like a given thread, don't post in it.

3. Stay on topic. If a thread is mindless, be mindless. If a thread is trying to be thought-provoking, then try to contribute with something intelligent. Use your common sense, and post appropriately. It's not hard to tell the difference between a joke thread that you can screw around in, and a serious thread that is asking for intelligent conversation.

4. Because folks don't seem to understand that people of all ages visit here, this rule is something that should have been obvious: do not post links, references, inferences, or "dude, don't Google this even though I know you will" hints about ANYTHING that is inappropriate for people under age 18 to be seeing. I don't want lawsuit threats from Angry Mommy because Little Timmy Twelve Year-Old was caught watching a video of a woman dressed like a nun blowing a pig, and he told her that he read about it while browsing LLD101.com.*

Thus endeth the lesson. And now, back to Knarl's gibbering.

Both Voices and I have decided the time has come to have an off-topic section for these forums, mainly due to the fact that after the Honoring Spazz post turned off-topic, it remained civilized and produced some great discussion, which really surprised me.

So basically, these forums are for posting *almost* anything unrelated to D2 or LLDing. So music, sports, other games, hobbies, tv, and things like that are fair game. What I don't want to see are things like:

Title: I ate 3 pounds of fudge today.
Message: I'm so full. Embarassed

I really don't want this forum to turn into a "post whatever the heck is on your mind regardless if anyone else wants to read it or not" forum. Please use your common sense when posting a new topic. Ideally, you want to post something that can spark a conversation, like what kind of music do you listen to, or what's your favorite tv show, or whatever.

Some general rules to keep in mind when posting:

No flaming, no insults, no racism (this will be strictly enforced)

Keep it clean. No posting links to nudity, porn, dirty or disgusting pictures, drugs or drug information (including drug paraphernalia like how to make a bong or the address to Marty's Moderately-Priced Marijuana), or anything inappropriate for people under the age of 18.

Before posting, ask yourself, "Is this OK to post, or should I hit the back button on my browser before I get in trouble for posting something I shouldn't have?"

Something else to remember: The flames stop here. We are entering a new chapter in LLD101 history, and I want everyone to get over the things that have happened in the past and start anew. There is no excuse for flaming and I really don't want to see it anymore. Let's get back to being a thriving community and make posts about LLDing and take advantage of this off-topic forum to get to know each other a little better.

Thanks for reading.

*However, feel free to PM me the link, because I think that stuff is hilarious.

just to make the above a bit clearer, that means in ANY forum. this new idle chat forum is on a probation. if there is continued unrest and flaming in other forums, this one might be deleted. so if you want to keep this forum, behave like mature young adults. because we know you can now, after seeing the "honoring spazz" thread, and theres no excuse to not continue acting that way.

is there a way to turn off the thread so that when i do the "View posts since last visit" search thingy,... this OT area will not be part of it?

I don't know of any way, except by just going through the forums you want to manually like I do. Just look at the posts with the little orange flag.

Or when you do the view posts since last visit, just don't look at the ones that are from the off-topic forum (it specifies on the left what forum the post is from, though I'm sure this is old news to you)

New rules written. Read and learn, or be ignorant. And ignorance is rarely as blissful as the brochures advertise.
