I believe Fine GC of Str/Dex(1-3 max dmg/xx ar/6 stats) are the best( ilvl around 14~?)
6 stats = 18 life(24 for barb)
3x 15 life LCs = 45 life
2x stat GCs = 36 life
hm.. imo they are worth using to reach str/dex for gear

I think the tradeoff is a bit worse than you describe. With every good GC, you're also forced to pair it with a shitty SC.
The tradeoff is more like this:
4x15life LCs = 60 life
2x stat GC + 2x stat SCs = 42 life, and 3 max damage
If your paladin uses charge a lot I'd recommend 15/12 life/mana LCs above all else.

actually lets make it a bit better at comparing:
2x ar/life lcs or mana/life lcs --> 13-25x2:26-50 ar OR 8-12x2:16-24 mana with 28-30life
gc+sc --> 3max/20ar/15life + 1stat/2-7mana
if you really need the dmg I'd suggest going for atleast 5xgcs+5xscs +10x lcs.
my lvl12 mauler (built for vlld melee arena) uses 7xgcs+7xscs+6xlcs as of now because I cant find those kind of lcs easily.

this actually isnt for my paladin. this is actually for my barb i just made. i know...its crazy. i've fallen in love with barbs. my pali phase is paused for the time being.

6stat GC + 1stat SC = 7 stats = 28 life on a barb
2x 15life LCs = 30 life
you'll lose 2 life per 4 slots, but gain a nice chunk of max damage.
Large charms have the potential to give better mana/AR bonuses, but for the best balance I would use as many stat GCs/ SCs as possible until you reach your stat requirements.
