After slogging through 8 pages of posts of people arguing with out offering much help (this was my result of a search for ?smiter?) I am as confused as ever.

I am trying to build a level 30 (ish) Smiter on hardcore ladder. This isn?t going to be a tournament build so I don?t have any real level or gear restrictions other than it has be around level 30 and has to be stuff I can afford to trade for or find.

From what I have been able to read it seems that I want to max Smite and Holy Shield. After that I?m not sure what aura I should be using. I assume I should use concentration? I?m still not sure about gear either. My first pass at this looks like this;

Skill points:
29 from leveling
12 from Hell rush
41 total

Distribution;
20 Smite
1 Holy Bolt
1 Charge
1 Blessed Hammer
7 Holy Shield

1 Might
1 Blessed Aim
9 Concentration

Gear:
Helmet: Peasant Crown (this seemed to be the choice of most people)
Amulet: Not sure. +1 pally with stats or +2 combat skills with other mod?
Armor: Twitchthroe seemed to be the choice for most people.
Weapon: Not sure. Crushflange (33% CB, +15 str)?
Shield: Not sure. I have a 65/119 Akaran Rondache that will get 4 sockets. Do I use this a make a Spirit or should I try and shop a +2 combat skills Barbed shield of deflecting?
Rings: SOJs are out of the question. Not sure what?s left after that other than rares with stats or res.
Belt: Death?s
Gloves: Death?s
Boots: Goblin Toe (25% CB)

Stat Points:
145 from leveling
15 from Act 3 quests
160 total

Once I know I gear I can allocate stat points as needed.

Any thoughts or ideas? All help is appreciated. Thanks for looking.

If youre going to make it 30, you may as well go to 35 for black flail and guillaumes.

Off the top of my head:

black flail
rhyme barbed
guillaumes
ik boots/belt/gloves
not sure on armor, possibly rattlecage or an artisans XXX of the squid/whatever with some combination of jewels or perf rubies [this IS hardcore]. Maybe maxers and have an honor wep on switch for charging.

Check ias bp's and use ias jewels accordingly.

For aura, id go fana, then max holy shield and the rest into either smite or defiance depending if you want defence or not.

The thought of going to 35 did cross my mind but I only want to do that as a last resort. Beside the str. reqs. for the IK gear and Guil. helm are a little too steep. Thanks for the suggestions.

as for your weapon

+fana 5 os scepter is your best bet (fill with some shaels)

yea definently fanat. just get +2 pcombat circ, ammy. upped twitch.

for weapon there are alot of choices. +1 pally 30% ias 2 socket flail is good, nice range. +2 p combat sceptors with +fanat and ias are sweet also, shael em all.

shield: rosebranded barbed shield of deflecting, with p diamonds/nice jewels depends who your dueling.

rings: any rares with + stats, mana, resists i guess.

basically just charge/smite your way to victory. could even have a foh switch. something like +2pcombat 1-3 foh 1-3 conviction. and a 40+ res all spirit pally shield, just for fun and more overall ownage^^
